Understanding Domestic Violence


  • Domestic violence is a behavioral act of someone having control over a partner in a relationship or family member.

  • Anyone can be a victim of violence regardless of race, age, gender, & sexual orientation

  • Behaviors include physical violence, sexual violence, manipulation, & stalking

  • Many cases of domestic violence are difficult to identify that they often go unreported to healthcare professionals & authorities


Recognizing Signs of Domestic Violence


  • Physical or psychological abuse

  • Putting you down for your accomplishments

  • Humiliating you in front of your friends or family

  • Using threats to gain compliance

  • Controls you from seeing friends or family members outside of relationship
