ABOUT THE OWNER

Owner Biography: I’m Colin Kmiecik the owner & founder of Bad Wave. I started up Bad Wave as a project during post Covid period in late 2021. Before that I was a graphic design major. To describe some of my background that transpired me to start up Bad Wave was from having creative outlets such as music, video games, film, books, skateboarding, & photography. But most importantly from previous work experience when I previously worked at a Vans store, interned for a past clothing company for school, & volunteered for a local skate shop. With all of my work/volunteer experience plus my outlets combined together, I wanted to start a brand where I utilize all of that together. To have that sense of independence over myself when it comes to work over falling into a crowd that settle for the corporate route after completing a school program by a societal standard. What defines Bad Wave especially that makes it stand out from other brands is running an independent business that allows people to have their own authentic identity through soft goods they buy or hard goods. As well as provide opportunities for creators or skaters to be recognized through sponsorships that are beginner or experienced. As well as teach a youth generation to learn to skate or learn to make their own graphics.

I started quad skating December of 2020. It started out as just trying to learn to roll forwards and backwards and then trying to learn some dance moves. April 1st of 2021 I skated my first mini ramp and I haven’t looked back since. I’ve been through injuries, time off, progression and plateaus, but I don’t think I’ll find the feeling I get from landing a solid run like I do I quads. Finding skating in my late 20’s and continuing it into my 30’s has been the raddest experience.

My name is Jacob Menzer. I’m 17 years old and skating was the culture & community I stumbled into when I needed community the most. Through skating I’ve learned to look at the world differently and it’s even introduced me to some of my best friends as well as my biggest passions like music.

Edgar Cote, age 38, was handed a skateboard by one of his best friends in 5th grade. Skateboarding changed his life. He hasn't stopped skating since then. He currently gives skateboarding lessons now as a part time job.
